Artist's Statement
My art has taken on a new direction. The landscapes and seascapes are a big departure from my figurative work of the past.
I also have taken to painting plein air, while my fiancé fishes and our dogs frolic- under my easel and along the shores. Although, I still paint in my studio.
Visiting various fishing spots around the Commonwealth has allowed me to benefit from the fresh air, the warm sun and other aspects of nature. I also photograph the scenery, to paint later in my studio, when I cannot be outdoors. Hence, my dogs have found themselves as minor figures in these scapes.
The inclusion of my pets in these nature scapes stems from previous work with pet portraits. It feels like it also provides a humanizing factor in the scape.
More than changing what I paint, I have changed how I paint. There is a difference in every aspect from my previous work, from subject matter to color scheme. While the learning curve has been steep, it has been worthwhile.
